Hampton women’s basketball Coach Tamisha Augustin announced her coaching staff as she begins her first season as coach of the Lady Pirates. The staff has an SEC flair with the addition of coaches Jaamal Rhodes (Kentucky) and Brooke Key’Ontay Moore (Ole Miss). The staff also includes veteran Dexter Holt, who served as an assistant coach during Augustin’s playing days at Alabama A&M, and Director of Basketball Operations I’Liyah Green, who played at Cincinnati when Augustin was an assistant coach on the staff.
Dexter Holt
Assistant Coach
Dexter Holt, a veteran of more than 30 years in the coaching profession, will serve as Augustin’s top assistant. The hiring reunites Coach Augustin with her former college coach. Holt served as an assistant coach for the Lady Bulldogs during Augustin’s playing career at Alabama A&M.
Holt comes to Hampton after two years on the coaching staff at UMBC. He spent a year as the head coach at Harris-Stowe in St. Louis, Mo., after working as an assistant coach at Alabama State for five seasons.
At Alabama State, he helped lead the Hornets to a runner-up finish at the 2021 SWAC Tournament. He was instrumental in recruiting five first-team and three second-team All-SWAC honorees and assisted with the development of Brittany Wright, the 2017 SWAC Player of the Year.
Holt spent 23 seasons at Alabama A&M working with both the men’s and women’s teams. He began his coaching career in 1993 as a student assistant under head coach Vann Pettaway before being promoted to a full-time assistant. He helped coach the team to three regional championships and three consecutive NCAA Elite Eight appearances (1993-96).
Jaamal Rhodes
Assistant Coach
Jaamal Rhodes joined the Lady Pirate coaching staff after a season as associate coach of player development at Kentucky under Coach Kyra Elzy.
Prior to his time at Kentucky, Rhodes spent four years at Arizona under head coach Niya Butts as the team’s video coordinator from 2010-14. A veteran of the high school and club coaching ranks, Rhodes spent nearly 20 years developing and coaching players at the highest level in Arizona. He served as the national girl’s head coach of the Arizona Compass Prep School. After starting the program in August 2020, the team posted a three-year record of 66-29 against a nationwide schedule. In his three seasons, 17 of 20 seniors in the program went on to play collegiate basketball including nine Division I Players.
Rhodes continued to build winning programs in the state of Arizona. Taking a program at Sabino High in Tucson, Ariz. that had posted an 18-28 record in the two seasons prior to his arrival, Rhodes immediately turned the program around. The Sabercats were 43-15 in his first two seasons as head coach. The 2019-20 team won the Class 3A State Championship and he coached three future Division I players and a Top 50 ESPN HoopGurlz player.
Rhodes began his coaching career in 2006 at Warren County, Ga. where he taught social studies and math while coaching basketball at various levels. In addition, Rhodes aided in the development of a top 25 point guard, Candice Warthen.
Brooke Key’Ontay Moore
Assistant Coach
Brooke Moore comes to Hampton after spending one season as a graduate assistant at Ole Miss. A former high school standout, the Ole Miss graduate spent two years at Auburn and two seasons at Purdue.
Mississippi head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin described Moore as a future star in the business who provided an immediate positive impact when she added her to the Rebels staff. Moore spent the 2023-24 season on the bench developing her basketball knowledge under the tutelage of McPhee-McCuin.
A five-star recruit from Henry County (Ga.) High, Moore was ranked the No. 11 guard by ESPN HoopGurlz. She averaged 22.3 points, 4.0 assistant, and 3.0 steals as a senior leading Henry County High to the state championships game. She was named AAAA Player of the Year as a senior and was a three-time Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year while finishing as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,215 points.
Playing at the highest levels, Moore played with Finest Basketball Club (FBC), one of the top grassroots programs in the country, under Coach Alfred “Mo” Motton.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Moore has been a great connector with many contacts and relationships throughout the area and ais a staple of the community.
I’Liyah Green
Director of Basketball Operations
I’Liyah Green will serve as the Director of Basketball Operations after serving in similar positions at two Division I universities. She served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Abilene Christian for one season under Coach Julie Goodenough before following Abilene Christan associate head coach Erika Lambert to North Florida the following year.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Green enjoyed a successful playing career which included stops at Cincinnati and Eastern Kentucky. She played her scholastic basketball at Louisville’s Male High where she was the team’s leading scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker. She was named All-District 26 and second-team All-Region as a junior. Greene was a three-star recruit out of high school and attended Cincinnati. She was redshirted as a freshman due to injury.
After spending three seasons at Cincinnati where current Hampton head coach Tamisha Augustin served as an assistant coach, she transferred to Eastern Kentucky for her final seasons. She was named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s All-Newcomer team and served as the team’s captain. She played 59 games at Eastern Kentucky while averaging 6.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
