NAIA Rochester University has hired Jared Ocampo to become the program’s new head women’s basketball coach for the 2023-24 season. Ocampo will be in his first head coaching position at the collegiate level after multiple years of serving as an assistant coach for the Warriors.
“I’m looking forward to empowering our young women of Rochester University through the game of basketball,” Ocampo said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to continue to build on the foundation of serving a mission and purpose in God’s light to fulfill a championship culture for our student-athletes that will extend outside the institution’s walls.”
Ocampo served as the team’s director of player development for the last two seasons, a tenure that included a WHAC tournament championship last season. Ocampo also coaches for the Michigan Mystics AAU program which has seen much success in his time there.
“After spending the last two years focusing on player development, I look to apply that same focus into not only developing players but also people,” Ocampo said. “We pride ourselves on a family-type culture which allows our student-athletes to contribute to each other’s successes on and off the court.”
Ocampo will look to continue the success and growth of the Warriors’ program created by former coach Brent Wichtner.
“The main point of emphasis this season is to be resilient and trust in our faith,” Ocampo said. “When life gets challenging or when we are forced to face adversity during the season, our faith is what gives us strength to overcome that adversity.”
Senior Vice President of Athletics, Dr. Klint Pleasant, had this to say on Ocampo’s hiring:
“We are excited to keep continuity within our women’s basketball program. We are also thrilled that Jared will be with us on a full-time basis. The women’s program has enjoyed much success over the last few years under Brent’s leadership, and Jared was a huge part of that. He’s a talented coach who understands our ultimate mission and has done a great job of recruiting. We are proud of the program’s success, and maintaining continuity was a priority.”
