Fresh off the Boston University women’s basketball program’s first Patriot League regular season championship, Head Coach Melissa Graves has announced that Brianna Finch will be elevated to associate head coach ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
“Brianna has been instrumental in helping build this program from the first day we arrived on campus,” said Graves. “Over the past two years, she has remained completely committed to Boston University and our program, and is a huge key in our achievements thus far. I’m looking forward to continuing to work alongside Brianna in her new role as associate head coach.”
Serving as an assistant coach and the team’s recruiting coordinator for the past two seasons, Finch has helped guide BU to a .641 winning percentage during that span. BU has gone 29-7 against Patriot League foes under her tutelage.
“I am incredibly honored and appreciative of Coach Graves and the athletic administration for elevating me into this role,” remarked Finch. “Boston University is a special place with a rich tradition of excellence, both on and off the court. I could not be more excited to continue working alongside our staff to build on recent success, while mentoring and serving our student-athletes to ensure an outstanding experience.”
Developing BU’s perimeter shooting, the Terriers are coming off a 2022-23 slate where they ranked fifth in the nation with a program-record .381 three-point shooting percentage. Leading BU was sophomore Alex Giannaros, a Third Team All-Patriot League honoree who paced the nation with a 51.5 percent clip from beyond the arc.
Overall, BU led the Patriot League with a .453 field goal percentage and 510 assists, dishing out 15.4 assists per game. The latter number marked a +3.3 improvement in that category from a season ago. The Terriers also scored 68.1 points per game, ranking second in the league.
BU closed the year with a 24-9 record, the second-most wins in a single season in program history. The Terriers went 17-1 against league foes to tie the Patriot League record for most wins in conference play, and reached the championship game for the second time in three seasons. BU was awarded its fifth bid to the WNIT, and first since 2012.
