Head Women’s Basketball Coach Mark Schwitzgable has announced the hiring of Tori Moreland as the new assistant Women’s basketball coach at Walsh University. Moreland comes to Walsh by way of the University of Pitt-Johnstown in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
“I am very excited to add Tori to our coaching staff,” Head Coach Mark Schwitzgable said. “Tori brings a great deal of collegiate playing and coaching experience to our program. She is a hard worker, a good recruiter, and more importantly a great person. I know she will be a great fit here at Walsh and I’m looking forward to working with her this season.”
Last season with Pitt-Johnstown, Moreland helped guide the Mountain Cats to 3 wins against Top 25 ranked teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). They also won their first tournament game in school history as a member of the PSAC.
Moreland, a member of the Pitt-Johnstown Women’s basketball team from 2015-2019 team, was a three-year starter and two-year team captain. She averaged 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game and started 69 of the Mountain Cats’ 92 games over her career. Moreland also connected on 123 3-pointers and holds the Pitt-Johnstown program record for charges taken.
Prior to her arrival at Pitt-Johnstown, Moreland served as the Women’s basketball graduate assistant at Detroit Mercy University in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. Moreland’s responsibilities included handling all of the team’s travel details, overseeing team managers, film breakdown, and equipment. She graduated from Detroit Mercy with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 2021.
Moreland has gained additional experience running basketball camps and serving as a volunteer assistant coach for Berlin Hiland High School in 2018, Team Hudl AAU in 2018, and New Philadelphia High School from 2015-18. Moreland, a native of New Philadelphia, Ohio, earned her Bachelor of Education Degree in Secondary Math Education at Pitt-Johnstown in 2019. She was a member of the Dean’s List all four years of college. Moreland is currently a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and has attended the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four Convention.
