Mississippi Valley State University’s Interim-Director of Athletics, George Ivory, is proud to announce Kimberly Anderson as the sixth head women’s basketball of the Devilettes.
An Introductory press conference will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, in the R. W. Harrison Complex. The public is invited to attend.
“I am excited Coach Anderson accepted the opportunity to lead our women’s basketball team. I love her because she understands winning, and she wants to be here,” said Ivory. This is a great moment for women’s basketball at MVSU. Kim has a track record of success at every level, and she is more than ready to take the reins of this program,” Ivory added.
Anderson comes to Valley from Lane College, where she just completed her seventh season with the Lady Dragons. In the 2018-19 season, Anderson took the Lady Dragons to their first-ever NCAA D-II Postseason Tournament, thanks to them winning their first-ever SIAC Postseason Championship Tournament.
“I am so thankful for my time at Lane, and I appreciate all those who have supported me during my time with the program,” said Anderson. I am overwhelmed and overjoyed with the opportunity here at MVSU. I believe we can do great things here, and I look forward to meeting the faculty, staff, alums, and community,” Anderson added.
During her time at Lane College, Anderson strived to elevate the platform of women’s basketball by focusing on her lifelong passion for assisting young women to become successful on and off the court and being able to contribute to their community positively.
She values faith, family, and fitness, and is known as one of Hartsville, South Carolina’s standout athletes. Anderson’s career has spanned the Southeast as a player and coach for 20 years. Her on-the-court success was mirrored by the off-the-court pursuit of her degree. She earned her associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree in business at Claflin University, and master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
A member of the 1986 state champion Lady Foxes, Anderson saw her career take flight as she became an All-Conference player at Anderson Junior College. Immediately following her playing career, she moved into the coaching ranks. She found the opportunity to give back to her collegiate team Claflin and her former high school team, Hartsville Senior high School. Both opportunities afforded Anderson valuable experience that has shaped her career forward. In 2009, Kim was tasked with leading the Concordia Lady Hornets program, where she captured her first National title as head coach. From 2009 – to 2012, the Lady Hornets were one of the most successful programs in their conference.
Anderson is married to Tommy Anderson and has a son Kelvin Montreal Pooler.
