After 14 seasons leading the North Park women’s basketball program, Amanda Crockett is stepping down as head coach.
“Due to my family’s recent relocation, I am resigning as the North Park head women’s basketball coach,” said Crockett. “North Park has been a second home and family for me, and I will always cherish the people who make North Park a special place. Thank you to Jack Surridge for giving me the opportunity to serve as head coach 14 years ago, to my co-workers and administration for the constant support, to our coaching staff for their relentless loyalty, hard work and dedication, and to all the players I have been blessed to coach for having a special place in my heart. I love the North Park community and will always be a Viking.”
NPU women’s basketball saw great improvement under Crockett’s leadership. 11 of Crockett’s 14 seasons featured double-digit wins and the 2019-20 team concluded the season with 17 wins. Additionally, she coached Jayla Johnson to become the Vikings’ first ever women’s basketball All-American.
On February 19, 2019, Crockett’s squad established a program first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament game win with a 63-47 victory over Augustana. In each of the past four seasons, North Park has qualified for the CCIW tournament. Numerous records have been broken under Crockett’s coaching including most points in a game (134 v. Knox College Nov. 16, 2013), fewest points allowed (29 v. IIT Nov. 26, 2013) rebounds in a game (72 v. North Central Feb. 8, 2014), most three-point field goals made (13 v. IIT Nov. 26, 2013), most assists in a game (28 v. Knox College Nov. 16, 2013) and field goals made in a game (54 v. Knox College Nov. 16, 2014).
“North Park would like to thank Amanda for her service and dedication to North Park,” said John Born, Director of Athletics. “Under Amanda’s leadership the women’s basketball team achieved unparalleled success, both on and off the court. We wish her and the entire Crockett family nothing but the best in their next endeavor. She will be missed.”
