The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in the direction of all phases of a nationally competitive athletic program in accordance with Barry University, the Sunshine State Conference, and NCAA DII regulations. Responsible for supporting the Head Coach by providing individual instruction/ teaching of said sport. Also, coordinates community involvement, completing/submitting administrative compliance documents and other duties assigned by Head Coach, Sport Supervisor or Athletic Director.

This is a 11-month position. August 1st thru June 30th

Essential Functions

Organizes, supervises and conducts teaching sessions:

• Assists the head coach with instructing/ teaching student-athletes in the rules, regulations, and techniques of the sport.

• Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.

• Assists the head coach with supervising student-athletes during practices and competition.

• Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.

• Teaches assigned fundamentals and skills during practice and games. Assesses player’s skills and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.

• Models professional behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.

Establishes and maintains an organized recruiting system:  

• Recruits academically qualified student-athletes who form a competitive squad and meet established academic goals and objectives of the department.

• Participates in community service activities.

• Interacts with the Associate AD/ SWA, ICA Compliance Coordinator, Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success and Faculty Athletic Representative on all matters pertaining to eligibility.

Performs administrative functions in support of the Intercollegiate Athletic program:

• Cooperates with the athletic administration in the implementation of department policies.

• Assists in the direction of the program within the scope of the Intercollegiate Athletics Program.

• Maintains a representative level of performance in the conference that satisfies departmental goals and objectives.

• Consults with the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance concerning institutional, conference and NCAA regulations that will directly affect the program Maintains adequate records.

• Assists in Management of his/her budget and assists in developing fund raising efforts for his/her sport. Works closely with Sport Performance, Marketing, Development and Athletic Communications.
