Key named Lady Jackets basketball assistant coach

Kelsey Key has joined the Cedarville University women’s basketball staff as the program’s new assistant coach.

She comes to the Lady Jackets after serving as assistant coach at Division II Gannon University in Erie, Pa. for two seasons.

“I am excited to have Kelsey a part of my initial staff at Cedarville,” remarked new Head Coach Jason Smith. “She was my first choice from the beginning.

“Our women will be the beneficiaries of her skills and compassion for coaching. She was a great player and her love to serve the Lord will be contagious.”

Key helped lead Gannon to an impressive 38-7 overall record, one PSAC Tournament title, and a berth in the NCAA Division II Championship.

She previously was an assistant coach for one season at her alma mater, Indiana Wesleyan University, and was a graduate assistant for two years at Bethel College (Ind.).

The Anderson, Indiana native earned NAIA Division II All-America Third Team honors during her playing career at IWU. She was an All-Crossroads League First Team selection as well as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

She has been involved in international missions as part of two Athletes in Action tours to Poland and Puerto Rico.

Key is a 2017 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan where she majored in sports management. She earned a master’s degree in teaching from Bethel College in 2019.

The Lady Jackets are coming off of their third G-MAC regular season title in the past five seasons. Cedarville finished last winter 19-6 overall, 18-4 G-MAC, and received an at-large bid to the Atlantic Regional in the NCAA Division II Championship.
