Maine Women’s Basketball Announces Staff Promotions

University of Maine women’s basketball head coach has announced two promotions to her coaching staff. Vachon has elevated Courtney England to Associate Head Coach of the program and named Tom Biskup the Recruiting Coordinator, effective July 1, 2021.

“Courtney has been an integral part of our success at UMaine,” Vachon says. “Starting as a student-athlete and transitioning to a coach, Courtney has made an indelible mark on our program. Since 2017, in her four years as an assistant, our team has advanced to the conference championship game each year, won three regular season titles, and earned two trips to the NCAA Tournament. This success is directly correlated to Courtney England. Her pride in the University is second to none and there is no one more deserving of being the Associate Head Coach for the Black Bears than Courtney.”

England, who began her appointment as assistant coach at her alma mater on July 1, 2017, will begin her fifth year on staff in the fall of 2021. England spent four years as a student-athlete at UMaine. Following her graduation, England spent a year as the Director of Basketball Operations at New Hampshire before a year stint as an assistant coach at Presbyterian University.

“To have a successful program, a consistent staff is integral,” Vachon adds. “Tom is the epitome of consistency. His work ethic, his loyalty, and his dedication to UMaine is special. Tom has developed into a top-notch recruiter and has enabled us to attract and retain elite student-athletes. We are very specific in who we recruit to be a Black Bear and there is not anyone I’d rather have be our recruiting coordinator than Tom Biskup.”

Biskup, who will begin his fourth year as an assistant coach and fifth total year on staff in the fall of 2021, was promoted from UMaine’s Director of Operations to an Assistant Coach in August of 2018. A 2021 graduate of the University of Maine, Biskup spent two seasons on the basketball staff at Southern Maine Community College before serving a three-season stint as an assistant coach at Roanoke College.
