Central Michigan women’s basketball coach Heather Oesterle has added Michele Savage to her staff as her associate head coach.
Savage most recently served as an associate head coach for two seasons at Memphis and was the head coach at Davidson from 2010-17. Prior to her tenure at Davidson, Savage served for nine years as an assistant at Tulane along with stints at Cornell, Toledo and Chicago State.
“Michele is a great fit for our staff and team,” said Oesterle, who is entering her third year in charge of the program after serving for nine seasons as an assistant/associate head coach and helping to build the Chippewas into the premier program in the Mid-American Conference. “She brings a ton of experience to our program with many years in coaching.
“She came highly recommended by people that I trust. Our team will have some new faces on the court in the 2021-22 season, so I was looking for someone who can teach and bring energy every day. Michele fits that. I’m looking forward to all of our supporters meeting Michele in the near future.”
An Illinois native, Savage was a three-time All-Big Ten selection at Northwestern, from which she graduated in 1993. She led the Wildcats in scoring for three seasons, was twice the team’s top rebounder, and in 1991 earned All-America honors from Street & Smith’s. She helped lead the Wildcats to two NCAA Tournament berths and the Big Ten championship in 1990 and is a member of both the Northwestern and Illinois halls of fame.
