NAIA Freed-Hardeman University has released head women’s basketball coach Dale Neal following a 27-6 season. Neal, just wrapped up his 26th year at FHU with an overall record of 708-179 (.798). Neal is a the nine-time Conference Coach of the Year and three-time National Coach of the Year. He is also a member of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
According to a report in the Jackson Sun, Neal was let go Friday without explanation. Neal told the Sun, “I was called into a meeting with (FHU athletic director) Mike McCutchen, (FHU president) David Shannon and a representative from HR. “They told me they were letting me go. I asked them why, and they said we’re not getting into it and left it at that.”
Also according to the report, “He said state law doesn’t require him to give me a reason for letting me go, so he didn’t,” Neal said. “Shannon was there and didn’t say a word until the very end when he told me thanks for everything I’d done for Freed-Hardeman University.”
