Head coach Wendy Lee of the University of Mount Olive women’s basketball team announced the addition of UMO women’s basketball alumni Jasmine McDonald to the coaching staff as an assistant coach of the Trojans.
“Jasmine brings with her a rich tradition and understanding of the women’s basketball program here at Mount Olive,” said coach Lee. “As a former player of one of our championship teams, she embodies “The Trojan Way” and values Hard Work and Teamwork. We are so thankful and excited to have her joining our coaching staff.”
McDonald played for the Trojans from 2010 to 2014 and helped the Trojans to their 2013 Conference Carolinas Championship title. Over the course of her career in the UMO uniform, McDonald tallied 1,070 points, 876 rebounds, 356 assists, 22 blocks, and 238 steals. She earned several Conference Carolinas all-conference awards and all-tournament accolades including a 2013 Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Tournament Most Valuable Player honor.
A team captain in 2014 during her senior season, McDonald led her team to the Conference Carolinas Championship game where the Trojans finished runners-up, however, for her perseverance on and off the court and in the classroom, McDonald was the Conference Carolinas Finalist and the nomination for the NCAA Women of the Year Award at the end of her Trojan career.
“I am excited to be back at Mount Olive with a new set of lenses!” said McDonald. “I have some of the best memories playing on the UMO women’s basketball team during my undergrad years and making some lifelong friends that I am truly grateful for. I hope that the experience I have gained over the past four years, following my graduation from Mount Olive, with the job and high school coaching, will allow me to pour back into the Women’s basketball program as a graduate assistant and even in my MBA courses. An opportunity such as this does not come often, so I am blessed beyond measure to be able to further my coaching career and education.”
