Eric Almonte has been named the head women’s basketball coach for the Lady Panthers prior to the start of the 2018-2019 season. Coach Almonte will be familiar with the women’s basketball program after serving as an assistant coach at BMCC since the 2015 season.
As an assistant coach, Almonte guided the Lady Panthers to three consecutive CUNYAC playoff appearances. In 2016-2017, BMCC appeared in both the Region XV and CUNYAC finals following an impressive 17-5 record in the regular season. In his three years with the program he has coached players to reach their full potential, during his tenure with BMCC, several Lady Panthers players have earned accolades, including 8 CUNYAC All-Stars and 4 Regional All-Stars.
In addition to coaching the women’s basketball team, Almonte also has worked as an assistant coach for the BMCC Volleyball and Baseball team over the last two years.
Coach Almonte will most certainly bring a wealth of knowledge to the program with 13 years of coaching experience under his belt. Most recently, Almonte coached the basketball, volleyball and track teams at The Nightingale Bamford School in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Prior to attending CUNY Hunter College to pursue a degree in French Language and Civilization with a minor in Women Gender Studies, Almonte graduated from the Borough of Manhattan Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Bilingual Education. He currently speaks three languages: English, Spanish and French.
Before he started his coaching career, Almonte was a Military Police officer for the United States Army.
