Provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the women’s basketball program: coaches the team; plans, organizes, and supervises team practices; actively identifies, evaluates, and recruits student-athletes within the guidelines of federal, state and local laws, and college, department and division policies and procedures; and NCAA and USA South Athletic Conference guidelines. Reports to the director of athletics or other designated person and works with student athletes; students; officials; coaches and athletes from other institutions; high school coaches and athletes; ASC staff and coaches; alumnae; faculty; parents and on and off campus constituents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates all on and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA.
- Complies with all NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference, college and department of athletics regulations and policies.
- Provides leadership and coaching for the women’s intercollegiate basketball team.
- Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, and post-season practices and contests.
- Schedules all varsity contests; coordinates special events, hosts college tournament(s).
- Provides financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC basketball functions hosted by the coach/team/department.
- Oversees strength and conditioning for basketball.
- Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations.
- Coordinates team travel arrangements.
- Supervises the laundering and care of team uniforms, and care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment.
- Supervises graduate assistant and volunteer assistant coaching staff.
- Ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines.
- Reports weekly recruiting contact data and maintains accountability for recruiting and enrollment benchmarks.
- Participates in designated staff functions including job related in-service training.
- Supervises and coordinates work of volunteer assistant coaches and graduate assistants.
- Monitors and actively encourages participants to succeed academically and represent the college through leadership and integrity, both on and off the court.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Undergraduate degree required; masters’ degree preferred in related occupational field of study
Experience: Minimum of two years work experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of fitness concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and rules and scoring.
- Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment (Microsoft: Word, Excel, gmail and PowerPoint), including at least intermediate level word processing and spreadsheet development.
- Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, to maintain confidentiality, and to supervise others.
- Demonstrated strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes.
Other:
- Irregular hours are required on a regular basis.
- Travel required from office to other locations on a regular basis.
- Coaches must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA and the College with truthful and accurate information regarding rules violations. Coaches may be suspended or terminated if found to be in deliberate or serious violation of NCAA regulations.
- Coaches will be evaluated through an annual performance appraisal process and are expected to meet annual recruitment and enrollment goals.
