Tony Nakashima has been named as the assistant coach for the Montana Western women’s basketball team, head coach Lindsay Woolley announced.
Nakashima will be entering into his seventh year of coaching, previously spending time at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and Warner Pacific College in Portland, Ore. He also coached three years of high school basketball in Oregon and California, along with time spent coaching at the AAU level.
Prior to his college hoops days, Nakashima was a high school standout. By the time his playing days were over at Portland Adventist Academy (Portland, Ore.), Tony was ranked 1st in steals, 2nd in 3-pointers made, 5th in assists, and 7th in career points. Nakashima was also named to the All-State Honorable Mentions team during his senior year.
Tony went on to play college ball at Hawaii Pacific University before transferring to Pacific Union College to finish out his collegiate career.
“Tony is going to bring some experience and energy to our staff,” head coach Lindsay Woolley said. “I think he is really going to thrive on the recruiting trail, and I know our players are going to be responsive to his style of coaching.”
Nakashima graduated from Pacific Union College with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing.
