The Davenport women’s basketball program has announced that assistant coach Jori Monnich will be stepping down from her position.
Monnich said it was a tough decision and “with a lot of time and careful consideration, I have decided to take a break from the coaching world to stay at home with my newborn daughters. This was difficult but I am excited to take this opportunity to spend time with my growing family. I would like to thank the Davenport athletic department for the past four years and the opportunity to coach at my alma mater.”
Head Coach Robyn Scherr-Wells spent one season in 2015-16 and offered these comments, “I would like to thank Jori for all she has done for Davenport women’s basketball. She has been a part of almost every phase of this program from being a player on the first team in Davenport history to coaching here for four years. Jori was instrumental in helping me hit the ground running when I was hired last August. She is a tireless worker, great recruiter, and passionate about our players. I will miss working with Jori everyday, but I know she will always remain a part of our program as an alumna.”
The Panthers won 128 games during the time Monnich was on the bench capturing four WHAC regular season and tournament titles. The team advanced to the national title game once, finished as a semifinalist once and fell in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament twice.
