Wofford College women’s basketball head coach Jimmy Garrity has announced that Cameron Sealey has joined his staff as an assistant coach. Sealey previously served as an assistant at Georgia State University and will serve as the recruiting coordinator for the Terriers while working with the guards.
“I am really excited to welcome Cameron to our coaching staff,” said Garrity. “She has proven herself as a great recruiter and will be a tremendous asset to our players on and off the court. She is not only a great fit for our women’s basketball program, but also a great fit for Wofford College.”
Last season at Georgia State, Sealey helped develop the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, Madison Newby. Sophomore guard Makeba Ponder led the Sun Belt in three point baskets made per game and the Panthers in scoring. Spurred by the guards, GSU’s defense ranked second in the Sun Belt in steals per game.
“I want to thank Richard Johnson and Jimmy Garrity for giving me this opportunity to join the women’s basketball program,” said Sealy. “The move felt like a natural fit in many ways, and I am very blessed to be able to join the Wofford family. Having coached against Coach Garrity, I have seen how well he runs a program, how well he recruits, and how successful his teams have been on and off the court. I know that with the direction that Wofford is heading, the support from administration, and with Coach Garrity’s leadership, the future is very bright. I cannot wait to be a part of it.”
Sealey spent two years as an assistant coach with Mike Brandt at Division II USC-Aiken in the Peach Belt Conference. She was the recruiting coordinator and assisted in scouting, player development, practice, and fundraising as well as academics and film exchange. The Pacers were 18-12 in 2014-15. Sealey recruited and developed Freshman of the Year, Emry Tsitouris, who also earned second-team all-conference. Sealey worked with the guards in 2013-14 when USC-Aiken led the Peach Belt in three point field goals made.
Her first season of college coaching was in 2012-13 at Pitt-Johnstown under coach Sasha Palmer. She worked extensively with the team’s guards, assisted in recruiting and oversaw academic progress. She helped develop the WVIAC Freshman of the Year Jasmine Harper and worked with all-conference guard Kaitlynn Fratz with the Mountain Cats.
Sealey was a three-time all-conference player (NCCSIA) and a 2011-12 NCAA D-II All-Southeast Region pick for Lenoir-Rhyne under coach Todd Starkey. A two-time team captain, she finished sixth in Bears’ school history in scoring (1,493 points) and was top 10 in both assists (267) and free-throw percentage (79.6%). She led the team to a pair of conference titles and NCAA Division II Regional Tournament berths in 2009 and 2010.
A native of Mount Holly, N.C., Sealey holds the career scoring record with more than 1,500 points at East Gaston High School. She graduated with a degree in sports management from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2012.
