The assistant coaches are a key ingredient to the success of the student-athlete

experience at CSU California Maritime Academy.  In this position successful candidate(s) will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach with all facets of the program, with a primary emphasis on recruiting and retaining qualified student-athletes.  Candidate(s) will gain valuable insight into the administration of a competitive NAIA Division II program and further cultivate their coaching skill in a challenging and supportive environment.

This position is currently offered with a $1000 stipend, which may see a slight increase in the near future.  It is an ideal position for an individual that is looking to enter the collegiate coaching profession and gain valuable hands-on experience with recruiting, player identification, evaluation and development, practice planning, program organization, on court coaching, team management, leadership development and manager acquisition & development.  Here are a few more of the numerous tasks that the selected candidate(s) will be asked to do on a regular basis.

The candidate(s) for this position will be able to accept or adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Position will run 7 months out of the year to include recruiting duties.
  • Be available at least 10-15 days out of each month for player ID and local recruiting.
  • Be available at least 30% of the time during the season October – March, to help with practices and team travel as needed.
  • Be able to scout opponents electronically to prep for contests.
  • Have reliable transportation as well as a clean DMV/driving record and background check, to represent CMA in a positive light.
  • Be eager to work, teachable, and able to take instruction on the go.
  • Be able to provide logistical support to the Head Coach.

The candidate(s) shall demonstrate the ability to pay attention to detail, enjoy problem solving, and perform duties as assigned. The successful candidate will also possess excellent writing and communication skills, as well as a strong work ethic, organizational skills, flexibility, and should communicate extremely well in writing and through technology.  Candidates must have outstanding leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, students and community members.
