Some things that I’ve heard as we get ready for tonight’s National Championship….
• The hot rumor right now in Denver is that Notre Dame associate head coach Jonathan Tsipis will be the next head coach at George Washington. Tsipis has spent the past nine seasons on the staff at Notre Dame. He has also worked on the men’s side – he has been on staff at Duke, UNC-Greensboro, Cornell, and Elon. An announcement is expected sometime after tonight’s National Championship game.
• I have heard that former Florida Atlantic head coach Chancellor Dugan is involved with the Northern Kentucky job. Dugan is a Kentucky native who has had great success at the DII level – she went 159-73 as the head coach at Southern Indiana (1992-1999).
• Trine College (IN) has hired former NBA player Steve Mix as their new women’s basketball coach. Mix spent 13 seasons in the NBA with Detroit, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and the Lakers. He has been involved recently with the Toledo Elite Women’s AAU Program and currently owns and operates Steve Mix Basketball Academy and Camps. An official announcement is expected any day.
• Wentworth Military College is in the process of hiring their first-ever women’s basketball coach. I can confirm that John Jordan will be on campus interviewing there tomorrow. This past season Jordan served as Director/Head Coach at Charlotte NC based American Basketball Institute where he guided the first year men’s program to a 33-12 record and third place finish at the NPSA National Post-Graduate Championships.
