Tiber resigns at Southern Illinois

Southern Illinois University Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced the resignation of Saluki head women’s basketball coach Missy Tiber.

Assistant coach Adrianne Harlow will serve as the team’s interim coach for the remainder of the season. Harlow has been an assistant under Tiber for the past 12 seasons at SIU, Tusculum College, and Belmont Abbey College.

Midway through Tiber’s fourth year at the helm, the Salukis are 4-12 overall and 1-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Tiber ends her tenure at Southern with a 19-86 overall record (.181), including a 9-50 mark (.153) in MVC play. Prior to SIU, Tiber compiled a 167-70 record (.705) in eight seasons as a head coach at Tusculum (2005-09) and Belmont Abbey (2001-05).

Four coaches have led the women’s basketball program since the retirement of Saluki Hall of Famer Cindy Scott in 1998, and each left with a winning percentage below .400. SIU has won just one conference championship in the last 23 seasons and has finished better than seventh in the MVC only once since the 1996 season.

Moccia said a search for Tiber’s replacement will begin immediately.
