HOT: Morrow resigns at UT Arlington

University of Texas at Arlington Director of Athletics Jim Baker has announced that Samantha Morrow has stepped down as head coach of the UT Arlington women’s basketball team, effective immediately.

Morrow has spent the last six seasons at the helm of the Mavericks after taking over prior to the 2007-08 season. Her 2009 team earned a first-place division finish in conference play and made a WNIT appearance after playing in the championship game of the conference tournament. She has also guided her teams to three conference tournament appearances in her first five seasons.

“I informed Coach Morrow that I was not going to renew her contract at the end of the season,” Baker said. “Upon hearing that decision, she decided to step aside so that transition could begin as soon as possible.

"Samantha has been a valuable member of the UT Arlington community during her time here," Baker added. "We thank her for her contributions to the women’s basketball program and to the University. We wish her all the best."

Baker also announced that assistant coach Karen Blair will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the year and that the search for a permanent replacement will begin following the season.
