BREAKING: Radford coach released

Radford University director of athletics, Robert Lineburg announced Thursday the school will not renew the contract of head women’s basketball coach Tajama Abraham Ngongba for the 2013-14 season.

Ngongba ends her tenure with the Highlanders having compiled a 62-85 record in five seasons. The Highlanders finished this season 16-14 overall and 9-9 in the Big South Conference in sixth place. Radford lost Saturday in the league tournament to Longwood, 54-51.

“I would like to thank Coach Ngongba for her efforts in the past five seasons leading the Radford women’s basketball program,” Lineburg said. “At this time, however, I feel it is in the best interest of the program to seek new leadership.”

A national search for a new coach will ensue immediately.
