HOT: Butler parts ways with Couture

Butler Vice President and Director of Athletics Barry Collier announced today that assistant coach Kurt Godlevske has been named interim women’s basketball head coach for the Bulldogs.

"I am very pleased that Kurt Godlevske has agreed to lead our program at this time," Collier said. "Kurt is highly respected, a tireless worker and has excellent relationships throughout the game of basketball."

Godlevske joined Butler’s staff last season, after spending seven years as girls’ head coach at Bedford North Lawrence High School. He guided the Lady Stars to a 120-41 record, including a perfect 28-0 mark and the IHSAA Class 4A Girls’ Basketball State Championship in 2013.

He also was part of an Indiana boys’ state championship staff as a volunteer coach at Lawrence North High School in 2004. The Northern Michigan graduate (’94) began his coaching career at Lake Superior State, and he had a stop at L’Anse High School in Michigan before taking over at Bedford North Lawrence. He joined the Butler staff in the spring of 2013

Godlevske replaces former head coach Beth Couture, who guided the Bulldogs to a 15-16 campaign and a berth in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) in 2013-14. In her 12 seasons at Butler, Couture led the Bulldogs to a 193-174 record and five WNIT appearances.

The search for a permanent women’s head basketball coach will begin immediately.
