Brittany Spivey is entering her first season as assistant women’s basketball coach at Belmont Abbey College. Formerly Brittany Tate, Spivey was a two-year letterwinner for the Crusaders from 2008-09. She joins her alma mater after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Emory & Henry.
During her time at Emory & Henry, Spivey was responsible for monitoring the academic progress of the women’s basketball team, managing film exchange and the Wasps’ summer strength and conditioning program.
During the spring and early summer of 2011, Spivey took over the everyday operations of the E&H women’s basketball program during its coaching transition, including all aspects of recruiting and running the team’s annual summer camp.
In addition to her duties with women’s basketball, Tate was actively involved in Emory & Henry’s All-Girls Sports Day for local girls interested in playing sports. Players and members of the coaching staff share their experiences and love of sports to young ladies. She has also been involved with Habitat for Humanity, the Belmont (N.C.) City Carnival and has helped with many basketball camps including the regionally-acclaimed Hoops and Dreams Camp of Greensboro, N.C.
As an undergraduate at Belmont Abbey, Spivey was twice named Academic All-Conference for Conference Carolinas. She received the Coaches’ Award after her junior year and also served as a Student Assistant Coach under current coach Susan Yow, working with player development and assisting with practice plans.
Spivey is a 2009 graduate of Belmont Abbey with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and earned a Master of Arts in Education from E&H in 2011.
