After serving as Acting Head Coach in the 2012-13 season, Carissa Sain Knoche has officially been named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Chicago.
"We are pleased that Coach Sain Knoche will be leading our women’s basketball team and are looking forward to her continued success with the program," said Acting Director of Athletics, Brian Baldea.
Prior to this academic year, Sain Knoche was an assistant coach at UChicago for four seasons. She was named Acting Head Coach in August 2012 after the departure of Aaron Roussell, who helmed the Maroons for eight seasons.
"I’m thrilled for the opportunity," said Sain Knoche. "To continue working at this university, and having the luxury to lead this team, is a dream come true."
During her five years at UChicago, the women’s basketball team has won two UAA conference titles and made appearances in the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Sain Knoche’s familiarity with the UAA conference dates back to her days as a basketball player at Carnegie Mellon University (2001-05). She was also an assistant coach for CMU from 2005-08.
A three-time All-UAA pick, Sain Knoche finished her career as CMU’s sixth-leading all-time scorer with 1,189 points. She also set the school records for most 3-point field goals in a career (175) and season (54).
