Kurt Godlevske, who won a boy’s and a girl’s state championship in Indiana high school basketball, has been hired as assistant coach for the Butler women’s basketball team.

"We are really excited to add Kurt to our staff," head coach Beth Couture said. "He will bring a great amount of coaching experience and a highly successful background as he is coming off an undefeated state championship season at Bedford. After my first meeting with Kurt, I knew he would be a great asset to our program. His winning approach, great character and his eager and charismatic demeanor will be a great addition to Butler women’s basketball."

Godlevske joins Couture’s staff after winning the IHSAA Class 4A Girl’s Basketball State Championship in 2013. He posted a 120-41 record in seven seasons at Bedford North Lawrence High School, including a 28-0 mark in last season’s state championship season.

An all-state high school basketball player in L’Anse, Mich., he played collegiately at Northern Michigan University, then started his coaching career at NCAA Division II Lake Superior State, where he posted a 35-19 record in two years. After a few years out of coaching, Godlevske returned as head coach of his alma mater in L’Anse, leading the school to a 40-9 record in two seasons.

Godlevske earned his degree in physical education and health from Northern Michigan University in 1994. He earned a master’s degree from University of Indianapolis in 2004 and a principal’s license from Oakland City in 2008.

Godlevske replaces Amy Cherubini, who had been on Couture’s staff for seven seasons.

Butler, 17-14 this past season, earned its fourth berth into the WNIT in five years. The Bulldogs will compete in the Big East Conference next season after placing sixth in its only season in the Atlantic 10.
