Tiffani Selhorst, most recently an assistant coach at Saint Francis University (Pa.), has been appointed head coach of Indiana University East’s new NAIA women’s basketball program, the school announced July 19.
"It already feels like I’m at home, and I’m excited to get started," Selhorst said. "This was the best job that was out there this year. The opportunity to go out and get good quality kids who want to come here and be a part of something and make history – it doesn’t get any better than that!"
Selhorst served as the assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator for the NCAA Division I program at Saint Francis. Saint Francis made two trips to the NCAA Tournament during Selhorst’s four seasons with the Red Flash.
Selhorst previously served as a graduate assistant at Ohio University for two seasons. She was part of teams with an overall record of 109-84 as an NCAA Division I assistant.
She has 13 total years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, high school, AAU and junior high levels.
"I am a ‘players coach,’" Selhorst said. "I really try to get to know my athletes and the things that they are going through and really shape the program around them."
Selhorst will serve as an athletics administrator in addition to her duties as the women’s basketball coach.
"We feel like we got the absolute best person for the job, not only from a basketball sense but fitting in our department and our family on campus," said IU East athletic director Mark Hester. "We are extremely glad to have Tiffani on board."
Selhorst is a native of Ottawa, Ohio. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wright State in 2004. She holds a master’s degree in recreation and sport sciences from Ohio University.
IU East in February announced plans to add a women’s basketball program, the school’s 11th NAIA intercollegiate sport. Selhorst was selected after a nationwide search that attracted more than 100 candidates.
Selhorst will focus on recruiting the Red Wolf roster during the 2013-14 school year. The team will begin NAIA competition during the 2014-15 school year.
