Bryn Mawr’s Athletic Director Kathy Tierney announced Rebecca (Becky) Tyler as the Owls’ new head basketball coach. Tyler becomes the 11th head coach in Bryn Mawr basketball history.
"I’m very pleased that Becky Tyler has accepted the Head Basketball Coach and Physical Education Instructor position at the college," said Tierney. "I believe Becky will be a tireless advocate and supporter for our student-athletes, and will deliver on an exciting vision for the future of the basketball program."
Tyler, who spent the 2013-2014 season as the interim coach, is excited for what the future holds for Bryn Mawr basketball. Last season, she helped coached senior Nicolette Parmese become Bryn Mawr’s all-time leading scorer.
With more than seven players expected to return next year, and the return of co-captain Holly Constants and Hope McMahan, the Owls will be ready to hit the hardwood come preseason.
"I have enjoyed my experience this past season and I am excited to the head basketball coach for Bryn Mawr College," quoted Tyler. "I am thankful for the opportunity and look forward to building a competitive basketball culture and recruiting the finest scholar-athletes to the program."
Tyler came to Bryn Mawr after spending three seasons as the assistant coach at Widener University, her alma mater. While with the Pride, she served as the academic and recruiting coordinator, as well as the defensive coordinator for the 2012-13 season.
During her tenure at Widener, Tyler mentored the 2012 Middle-Atlantic Conference (MAC) Player of the Year, three 1st team all-conference selections, two academic All-Americans, WBCA All-American and Philadelphia Inquirer Performer of the Year. Tyler helped lead Widener to a national ranking of 12 from D3hoops.com, the 2012-13 NCAA Elite 8 and runner-up in the 2011-12 MAC Championships.
Tyler has coached at numerous basketball camps including the Bob Koch Point Guard Academy and the YMCA of the Main Line sports camps.
Tyler graduated from Widener in 2010 with a degree in business management with a concentration in sports. As a student-athlete, Tyler played from 2006-2010 and was a two-time team captain. In 2009 she helped lead Widener to the MAC championship and an NCAA appearance. She was named 2nd team All-Conference for the 2007-08 season and earned the MAC Sportsmanship Award in 2009.
