Susan Robinson Fruchtl resigned as head coach of the Providence College women’s basketball program to become the Director of Athletics at Saint Francis University (Pa.). Saint Francis announced Robinson Fruchtl’s hire on April 11.
Robinson Fruchtl recently completed her fourth season as head coach of the Friars and compiled a 25-94 record. She helped to mentor two All-BIG EAST selections, one BIG EAST All-Freshman Team member and 11 BIG EAST All-Academic Team selections.
“I would like to thank Susan for her leadership and service to our women’s basketball program and Friar Athletics,” Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll said. “I wish Susan all the best as she pursues the next phase of her career. We will begin a national search for her replacement immediately.”
Prior to her stint with the Friars, Robinson Fruchtl coached the Saint Francis women’s basketball team from 2007-12. Her 74 career wins are tied for third on the school’s list. During her time with the Red Flash, she led the team to three straight appearances in the NEC Championship game and back-to-back NEC Championships in 2010 and 2011.
“It is with a grateful heart that I am leaving Providence and going forward into a new phase of my career,” Robinson Fruchtl said. “I can’t thank Father Brian Shanley, Bob Driscoll and Jill LaPoint enough for giving me the opportunity to lead the Friars four years ago. I have learned so much in watching how they have built one of the most respected athletic departments in the country and in the BIG EAST. I will take these lessons and do my best to impact Saint Francis University in many of the same ways. There are so many people that I would like to thank here at PC and I appreciate all of the relationships that developed over the years. Providence College is truly a special place and I wish everyone all the best moving forward.”
