Stuart Spires Named Women’s Basketball Coach at Toccoa Falls College

Toccoa Falls College Director of Athletics, Mac Ingmire, has announced the hiring of Stuart Spires as the Lady Eagles head women’s basketball coach.

“We are excited to have Stuart Spires as our new Head Women’s Basketball Coach.  Stuart has the coaching skill set to turn our program in the right direction,” said Ingmire. “His leadership experience, and motivational approach to coaching will serve our program well.  Spires has an extensive background in recruiting and already has a solid grasp on the kind of player that best fits TFC.”

Spires played basketball at Kings Mountain High School (NC) under Coach Larry Sipe. Sipe was a tenured assistant with the University of North Carolina Basketball Program. In turn, Sipe taught Spires the UNC game philosophy while coaching Spires in High School. Spires also traveled with women’s basketball at Anderson University (SC) from 1993-1995 in addition to handling the financial aid aspect of athletic compliance.  He has worked numerous camps throughout the southeast over the past twenty years.  Spires excelled in several sports and his athletic background also includes playing baseball collegiately at the University of Evansville before playing professionally in the Atlanta Braves organization.

“I am extremely excited to be the next Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Toccoa Falls College,” exclaimed Spires. “I am grateful for the opportunity and the trust that President Myers and Mac Ingmire have instilled in me to lead this program. In my initial conversations with Mac, I could feel his passion, commitment, and vision for TFC Athletics. These values are very important to me as I venture into this coaching position. I look forward to assisting our student-athletes in achieving their academic and athletic goals.”

Spires also serves as the Director of Student Financial Services at Toccoa Falls College.  He has worked in higher education for the past 20 years.  He is a 1995 graduate of Anderson University (SC) with a B.S. in Sports Administration and a 1999 graduate of Webster University with a M.A. in Information Management.  Spires is happily married to Tracy, who serves as the Registrar at Erskine College. The couple has two children, Cameron and Katie, both of whom attend Crescent High School in Iva, South Carolina.
