It’s widely understood that successful athletic programs can enhance school spirit and the overall college experience, thereby increasing a school’s marketability and improving student commitment. With that in mind, our dynamic and exciting Physical Education and Athletics Department seeks qualified applicants for the full-time, 10-month position of head women’s basketball coach. Goucher College fields 21 intercollegiate teams competing in the NCAA Division III as a part of the Landmark Conference.

Reporting to the director of athletics, the head coach will provide vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the women’s basketball program, to include coaching the team; planning, organizing, and supervising team practices; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; and working within NCAA, Conference, and departmental guidelines. The head coach will be called upon to supervise and coordinate the work of volunteer assistant coaches and graduate assistants, as well as play a major role in fundraising activities for the program, as appropriate. The incumbent will demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes by monitoring and actively encouraging participants to succeed academically and represent the College with the utmost integrity. The head coach may also teach a physical education course, and participate in administrative assignments and other duties as assigned by the athletic director.

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred); demonstrated success in coaching basketball at the collegiate level, preferably in the role of head coach, or at the AAU and high school level; and a minimum of three years college recruiting experience. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; a sophisticated understanding of applicable NCAA and Conference rules, regulations, and policies; and the ability to travel and/or work evenings and weekends, as needed. The successful candidate will also be subject to a background check as a condition of employment.
