CCNY Announces Staff Additions

CCNY Beavers Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jamie Angeli announced the hiring of Assistant Coaches Jeff Attard, Richard Peay and Tyrone Moultrie, rounding out his staff for the 2015-16 season.

Attard comes to CCNY after one season as the head women’s basketball coach at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC).  The BMCC program was shut down the year prior to Attard’s arrival, yet he was able to reestablish the program in just one year while putting a competitive team on the floor each game.  He successfully recruited Kristen Merrell, who was the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year in addition to First Team All-Region 15.  Merrell scored 485 points in her lone season at BMCC, placing 5th all-time among scoring leaders.

“We are extremely happy to have Jeff back at CCNY,” Angeli said. “His ability to recruit and develop players is very important to our program. He has been entrenched in the AAU circuit for many years and that experience will help us bring quality individuals to City College.”

“Since coming on board Jeff has been relentlessly working the phones and recruiting events in an effort to designate quality student-athletes we should pursue.  I am confident he will have a large imprint on our program moving forward.”
Attard currently coaches the New York City Bulldogs 13 and under AAU Team in the summer months.

Peay comes to CCNY from Stevenson High School in the Bronx, where he has been the head girls basketball coach for the past 13 seasons. While at Stevenson, Peay maintained a competitive program while establishing a graduation rate of 98%.  In addition to coaching at Stevenson High School, Peay was the Bronx Director of the Nike Metro Swoosh Summer League from 1995 to 2005.  Peay returns to his alma mater, receiving his Education Degree from CCNY in 1999.  In addition to coaching at CCNY, Peay will remain at Stevenson as an Assistant Principal.

“I am always happy to have CCNY Alumni return to help our program.  Richard is a successful coach and educator and is committed to helping us create a championship culture, built from a foundation of discipline and strong character.  His familiarity with our program is an added bonus, having coached two former players in Karissa Core and Kerniesha Williams.”

From 1987 to 1991, Peay was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO., winning three straight Mid-Western League Championships.

Moultrie comes to City College after serving last season as the Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Hostos Community College in the Bronx.  Prior to Hostos, Moultrie served as the girl’s assistant varsity coach at Murry Bergtraum High School.  Moultrie is also currently a head coach in the famed NY Gauchos AAU program.

“Tyrone is another individual who has strong AAU and local high school coaching roots that can help us recruit the greater NYC area.  Both Coach Moultrie and Coach Peay will be instrumental in developing our overall toughness, especially with rebounding and on the defensive side of the ball.”
